Susie just discovered two things she is dead and her boyfriend, Billy, is the son of Death.
A pact made at the beginning of time bound Death to cross the deceased to the Otherside for eternity. And steadily through the ages, Death created his own family to assist in this work.
When the family moves to Hamilton, New Jersey, Billy questions their motives and his own purpose in this world. Disgruntled, he seeks belonging at the local high school, Shermen High. There, he strays upon the bullied and still living Susie Cue. Something overpowers him to take action amongst the living and show her that she doesn’t have to suffer until death. He fails.
After her suicide, Billy’s anger propels him to challenge the rules established by his parents and stall her crossing. He knows that she will always be miserable in the Otherside unless he can prove to her that there is another way of being.
They fall in love and Billy struggles to balance pleasing his girlfriend and his parents’ demands. All the while, Susie undergoes her own evolvement from being helpless to taking control of what she still thinks is her life.
Though, other challenges plague the family and put a strain on Billy and Susie’s relationship. No one could have foreseen the consequences of choice, especially Susie Cue.

A fabulous read from a totally different view!! I read a lot of books and I couldn't put it dow the characters are so believable and draw you in. You actually feel for the main characters and want to cheer them on!! I'm an older reader and knowing the author personally, whom is less than half my age is amazing. The book was intriguing and exciting. Found it hard to put down. Kept me on the edge of my seat until the end.
